Commitment to Missions

Parishioners young and old of Plymouth United Methodist Church reach out locally, nationally and globally.

Reaching Out to Our Community

Habitat for Humanity – We have supported this great program with volunteers who signed up to assist and help a family in need build their new home.

Our Annual Giving Tree helps the Department of Social Services collect gifts for children in their system within the Plymouth area!  Look for the special Christmas Tree in the Narthex with requests for “Santa”.

We collect for local Food Pantries all year round!   People are welcome to drop off non-perishable foods during the week or when they come to worship services on Sundays. We donate on a rotation basis to the Episcopal Church, Salvation Army, and the Homeless Shelter in Kingston.

Stretching Out to Reach a Little Further to...

Rosie’s Place, a sanctuary for homeless women in Boston, MA.  It started with our senior youth group a couple of years ago and ballooned from there!  We now cater lunch to Rosie’s Place on a regular basis.  A group of 10 to 12 adult and youth volunteers meet on a Saturday morning to deliver, cook and serve approximately 150 homeless women.  Look for sign up sheets in our Atrium.

A word from OPastor Stan Cushing, Plymouth United Methodiest Churchur Pastor Stan Cushing:

"This is a great opportunity to volunteer!  Serving is one of the best ways that we can “follow-through” on our commitment to Christ.  As Jesus put it, “As you have done it to one of the least of these my brothers and sisters, you have done it unto Me.”   I invite you to really “follow-through” on your commitment to Christ.  Let’s make committing our time and energy the best service our families can offer and at the same time getting to know God, His word, and those He is calling us to serve!"

The Spring Heights Education Center in Spencer, West Virginia.   The senior youth group ventured out for a summer week-long adventure and worked both at the camp and in the local community doing repairs and building projects for those in need.  Plans are in progress for another trip!

Going Over Oceans to...

The Village of Bijague in Nicaragua.   Plymouth United Methodist Church started the Nicaragua Wishing Well Water Project for Bijague (pronounced be-aw-way), which is a small village of just over 300 people.  It consists of 25% adults, 25% teens and 50% children.  We were able to send two delegations to Nicaragua this year.  The end results were indeed gratifying and spiritually fulfilling!

Our January delegation worked diligently on refurbishing an elementary school and started work on a washing station to bring fresh water to this village.  Our April delegation consisted of senior high youth members and leaders who picked up where the first team left off!  The elementary school’s repairs were done including a fresh coat of paint as well as badly needed school supplies; and the all important completion of the washing station.  The villagers shared in witnessing the Lord’s work at hand including daily devotions, sharing of meals and times of reflection.  In the end, they were happy and sad.  Happy that they now have clean water and a brand new looking school …sad that their new found friends were going home.

The people of Bijague are grateful for the work and dedication that Plymouth United Methodist Church continues to give! With help from surrounding churches and the Plymouth County Water Works Assoc., we just recently raised over $20,000 which is the total cost of the Water Project (Washing Station, Well and Latrines to be built for each family)!   The final phase of the water project, installing the latrines, has begun.
