Growing in Christ

Growing in Christ at Plymouth United Methodist ChurchThis may be hard for you to realize, but God wants something even better for you. You will begin to understand how God wants to do this for you when you build a personal relationship with His Son, Jesus Christ. This is what Jesus meant when He said, “I came that they might have life, and might have it abundantly”. (John 10:10)

There is a real struggle that is going on within each of us that keeps us from experiencing God’s best for us.

This struggle is between our desire to know God and our willingness to compromise. God created us in His image, but our willingness to compromise comes from our sinful nature which often leads us to wrong decisions.

Jesus wants to help you win your internal struggles.

He wants to be the friend who helps you enjoy life. The Bible explains that the longing you have to be your best is Jesus saying, “Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in”.
(Revelation 3:20)

When we accept Christ’s love, we are changed.

This is what the Bible means in 2 Corinthians 5:17, “If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come”. Jesus is the friend who wants you to know Him, serve Him, and enjoy a relationship with Him forever.
Jesus lets you make the choice. Only you can choose to make Him your close friend.

The Bible is your guide. The bible is your guide

Everyone needs help knowing how to decide what is right and wrong for their life. As you read the Bible it will change the way you think and act. It has even been translated many times to make sure that you can find a Bible that uses language that will make sense to you. Try reading your Bible every day. A good place to start is the Gospel of John. It is the story of Jesus. As you begin to read, you will discover for yourself why it is the most important book ever written.

Talk to God every day and let Him talk to you.

This is important if you want a relationship with Jesus. Once you have invited Christ into your life, the Holy Spirit lives within you. You will begin to find peace as you talk with Jesus daily about everything that matters to you. Remember, God hears every one of your prayers!

Getting together with other people who love Jesus is essential.

As a follower of Jesus Christ, it is important to find other Christians who genuinely love the Lord. Our church has Bible Studies and Small Groups where you can talk about your faith and grow with others who also have a personal relationship with Jesus.

Perhaps you feel that you are unable to win the battle going on in your life. If so, please know that right now Jesus wants to begin a new relationship with you.
My relationship with Jesus began 30 years ago when I prayed and accepted Jesus Christ as my personal Savior. This was the most important decision I ever made. If you have never accepted Christ into your life, I invite you to begin a relationship with Jesus by praying the prayer I prayed:

Lord Jesus, thank You for dying on the cross for my sins. I open the door of my life to You and accept You as my Savior. Thank You for forgiving all my sins and giving me eternal life. I ask You to take control of my life and help me start being the kind of person You want me to be. Amen.

If you prayed this prayer or would like to talk with someone about your spiritual life, please feel free to contact me via email or 508-746-1642.

In Christ,

Pastor Stan
